Hempstead Village, settled in 1644, is the historic heart of the Town of Hempstead. During colonial times, it served as an important commercial crossroads and provincial government center where the Duke’s Laws were drafted in 1665. Today, Hempstead is a major multicultural commercial and transit center anchored by historic churches and community facilities.
