Wantagh was named after Grand Sachem Wantagh of the Montaukett tribe. Centered in southeastern Nassau County, Wantagh is widely celebrated as ‘The Gateway to Jones Beach,’ serving as the northern terminus of the scenic Wantagh State Parkway that carries millions of summer beachgoers to the Atlantic shore.
