Port Washington occupies the Cow Neck peninsula overlooking Manhasset Bay. Settled in 1644, it was historic for shellfish harvesting, sand mining that built Manhattan’s skyscrapers, and as the 1930s transatlantic base for Pan American World Airways’ legendary Yankee Clipper flying boats.
