Coram is one of the oldest settlements in central Long Island, settled in 1677 and named after native leader Sachem Coramp. During the American Revolutionary War, Benjamin Tallmadge led a daring Continental raid here in 1780, burning 300 tons of British hay stored at the historic Coram crossroads.
