Kings Park was settled in the 17th century as St. Johnland before being renamed in honor of Dr. Oliver Wendell Holmes’ mentor. Situated on the Long Island Sound and Nissequogue River, Kings Park is renowned for the 1,000-acre Sunken Meadow State Park, famous for dramatic glacial sand bluffs, boardwalks, and cross-country running.
