Saint James was settled in the 18th century and is celebrated for its rich theatrical and Gilded Age heritage. In the early 20th century, prominent vaudeville and stage actors, including Lionel Barrymore and John Barrymore, summered here. It features the historic 1857 Saint James General Store, the oldest continuously operating general store in New York.
