Incorporated in 1891, Bellport was founded in the early 19th century by maritime shipbuilders Thomas and John Bell. Situated on the Great South Bay, Bellport preserves historic Federal and shingle architecture, the historic Gateway Playhouse theater, and private ferry service to Ho-Hum Beach on Fire Island.
