Commack derives its name from the Secatogue Algonquin word ‘Winnecomac,’ meaning pleasant land. Settled in the early 18th century, Commack is home to the historic 1789 Commack Methodist Church, one of the oldest continuously operating Methodist church buildings in New York State.
