Greenlawn was originally settled as an agricultural hamlet and was renamed in 1868 when the railroad arrived to reflect its lush green landscape. Greenlawn became famous across America in the 19th century as a premier producer of pickles, celebrated each year at the annual Greenlawn Pickle Festival.
