Hicksville was named after Valentine Hicks, son-in-law of abolitionist preacher Elias Hicks and second president of the Long Island Rail Road. When tracks arrived in 1837, Hicksville became central Long Island’s bustling railway roundhouse and agricultural depot. Today, it is a bustling multicultural commercial center and major transit terminal.
