Lawrence, incorporated in 1897, is an affluent village in the Five Towns region named after prominent early landowners and philanthropists. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, wealthy New Yorkers built grand seaside estates here. Today, Lawrence preserves palatial residences, the Lawrence Yacht and Country Club, and tranquil tree-lined streets.
