The Town of Smithtown was established in 1665 by patentee Richard ‘Bull’ Smith, who according to legend was granted all the land he could encircle while riding a bull in a single day. Anchored by its famous bronze Bull Monument, the town is celebrated for the Nissequogue River, historic preserves, and scenic North Shore bluffs.
