Uniondale was settled in colonial times under the name Turtle Hook. Today, Uniondale anchors Nassau County’s sports, commerce, and higher education corridor, home to Nassau Community College, the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum (longtime home of the NY Islanders), and corporate centers on the historic Mitchell Field tract.
